TAKEOFF!

Hi! We are the four Norwegian Yardie Gyals; Anette, May Renate, Solveig and Hedda. This year we have decided to go to Jamaica because we have always wanted to travel the world together. Our first destination is Jamaica, so let's go!

The four of us sat down and studied Jamaica, and we found out fantastic things about the country. It is located in the middle of America, and is a Caribbean island. The country is not very large, but is still a famous destination. The capital is Kingston, the official language is English, but because Jamaica is a bilingual country, they also talk the local language Patois. The country is a Commonwealth realm, which means that the British Queen is the head of state, but only traditionally. Because og this, the country is a monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as their monarch, and she has been the head of state since 1962, the year Jamaica became independent.
In Jamaica, there are religious diversity, but the inhabitants are mainly protestants. However, not all of the religions are equally welcomed. If someone were to practise a Voodoo religion called Obeahism, which came to Jamaica with the African slaves, they would risk getting punished by death.

In 2014, Jamaica had 2,8 million inhabitants, which is almost half the number of inhabitants in Norway. However, there are several similarities between the two countries. People have high standards; clothes and having enough food are taken for granted, as well as paying tips at restaurants. Therefore, we figured that some aspects of the two countries have to be quite similar. Who knows? Maybe we will fit right in when we arrive Jamaica.

When we were looking for a destination we found this newsarticle, which said that Jamica is getting more popular for tourists. Therefore, we figured we wanted to see how Jamaica really is. The truly triggering reason for our choice of destination was the fact that there are not a lot of snakes there! May Renate is terrified of them, and therefore we were sold as soon as we found out!

We can not wait to tell you more about our journey, and we hope you want to keep up with us through our blog!
